2010 Postal Swim-
Congrats to all of our postal swimmers on Saturday, Jan.30th. They braved the cold and boring(in the water but fun on the deck:) morning and did the postal swim. Everyone made the entire 60 mins! I think we had 100% improvement from last year. We had quite a few new postal swimmers as well! I am proud of everyone. Thanks also to the counters, we couldn't have done it without you.
The postal swimmers were: Mike #1, Mike #2, Mike #3, Mike #4, Don Y, Lori M, Reiko T, Amy J, Peggy H, Carin L, Chris L, Caroline E, Terrilynn T, Paula S, Susan M, Jodi M, Jennifer C, Kristine H. Hope we didn't leave anyone off the list!!!

FCST Masters Swimmers Rock!
Congrats to the FCST Masters swimmers that participated in the “Luck of the Draw” meet this past weekend.
Special congratulations goes to Paula Sokolich from the Novice Group (50 Free, 100 Free), Mein Ahrns from the Novice Group (400 Free) and Eric Abecassis (800 free) for their FIRST TIME PARTICIPATION IN A SWIM MEET. They all three swam very well in their events and made their coaches and teammates very proud. WAY TO GO GUYS!!!
FCST Masters had 13 swimmers participate in the “Luck of the Draw” meet. Special recognition goes to Mike Offner for swimming the 800 free for the first time, Mike Johnson for a great 400 IM, 400 free (1st), 200 IM (1st), 200 back (1st), Carin Landeck and Chris Landeck battling it out in the family feud in the 100 breaststroke, Susan Monteagudo for a 4 second drop in 50 back and 3 second drop in 50 fly, and Jennifer Carlin-Roth for a great 400 free. Great job to every one of FCST Masters swimmers, you all raced very at this meet!

US Masters Nationals
Congratulations to Jennifer Carlin-Roth, Mike Johnson, Steve Long, Debbie Madden, Lori Miller, Susan Monteagudo, and Terrilynn Toon that participated at US Masters Nationals May 21st -23rd.
Everyone had an awesome meet and a great time competing, cheering each other on, and bonding as a team. It was also great to watch some Olympians from “back in the day” such as Rowdy Gaines and Roque Santos as well as current Olympians and National Team members Nicholas Brunelli, Mark Gangloff, and Cullen Jones.
Notable swims were Debbie Madden in the 50 breast 2.33 second drop, Jennifer 50 breast 3.84 second drop, Mike 200 free 4 th place (1:46.62), Steve Long 100 fly 1.45 second drop (59.46), Mike 100 Fly 6th place (52.45), Debbie 100 breast 4.70 second drop (1:18.11), Lori 50 Fly 31.43, Susan 50 Back 35.07, Jennifer 100 free 10.09 second drop, Mike 500 free 7th place (5:59.98), Terrilynn Toon 200 fly 3:51.32, Mike 200 fly 4th place (2:00.41), Susan 100 back 4.06 second drop (1:15.45), Lori 50 Free 28.47, Steve 50 Free 23.44. We also had some great relays.
Great Job FCST MASTERS! It was an awesome experience for everyone and your coaches and teammates are so proud of you!

FCST Masters Swimmer Shine at Short Course Zone Championships
Congratulations to the FCST Masters for an outstanding 2010 Short Course Zones Meet. The team placed 8th overall out of 33 teams, the women placed 7th out of 26 teams and the men placed 10th out of 24 teams. The team did great and had almost 100% best times and several new Masters Nationals cuts. Best times include Jan Broyles (200 back, 200 IM, 100 IM) Jim Crampton (100 IM, 200 back, 200 IM, 50 back), Mike Engelking (200 free, 50 free) Bryan Haire (50 fly, 50 free, 100 IM, 100 fly, 100 free), Mike Johnson (100 fly, 200 fly, 100 free, 200 free), Markell Lacy (50 fly, 100 fly, 500 free, 50 breast, 100 breast), Carin Landeck (200 breast, 100 free), Steve Long (50 fly, 200 free, 50 free, 500 free), Debbie Madden (100 breast, 100 IM, 200 breast, 50 free), Lori Miller (50 fly, 200 free, 100 IM, 100 free) Susan Monteagudo (50 fly, 100 back, 50 free, 100 IM, 100 free, 50 back),and Terrilynn Toon (200 fly, 500 free, 200 IM). New Nationals times were achieved by Jim Crampton (100 IM, 200 back, 50 back,), Markell Lacy (100 breast, 50 breast, 100 fly,) Steve Long (200 Free), and Debbie Madden (100 breast).
Special Mention goes to Bryan Haire for coming out of retirement this year and participating in his first masters meet and placing really well in all his events, Mike Johnson for winning the 200 free (1:45.66), a great time in the 200 fly (1:57.51), breaking the South Central Short Course Zones Record in the 100 fly (51.63), and winning the 100 free (48.22), Jim Crampton for winning the 100 IM, Lori Miller for an impressive 100 free (1:02.40), Terrilynn Toon for an awesome 13.70 second drop in her 200 IM. First place relays were Women’s 25+ 400 Medley (Monteaugudo, Madden, Lacy, Miller) and Mixed 35+ Medley (Johnson, Madden, Long, Miller). Great job to these swimmers and all the other FCST Masters that swam great at Zones. Keep up the hard word work and good luck at Nationals next month.

Masters Swimwear Changes
EMERGENCY RULE CHANGE - Due to the change in Masters swimwear rules published by FINA January 16, 2010, and pursuant to Article 601.4.8, the USMS Rules Committee and the USMS Executive Committee have approved the following emergency changes to the USMS swimwear rules. These changes are effective immediately for short course meters and long course meters competition. The changes are effective June 1, 2010 for short course yards competition. Note that the new swimwear rules no longer allow modesty/privacy wear underneath the competition suit nor zippers or fasteners of any kind except for a waist tie on a brief or jammer. The new swimwear rules did not govern the One Hour Swim conducted January 2010. Changes to the swimwear rules are underlined in this document, click HERE.
Masters Open Water
Congratulations all masters that competed in the Rice Open Water Meet, April 26. We had a lot of great swims and a couple of swimmers that competed for the first time in open water. The weather, water, and team support was awesome; all swimmers really represented why FCST Masters are so great.

Masters Novice Group
Two days a week we offer a Masters Novice group. This group focuses on the basics of all the strokes, if you don't know all the strokes this is a great group to learn them. We teach basic drills for all the strokes, turns, and work on building up endurance. If you have any questions you can email Wendy at coachwendy@swimfcst.com
