 FCST in Midland

THURSDAY, JUNE 14th:

Well, we made it here!  The trip went smooth and we actually had a good amount of time to get settled and grab some lunch before heading over to the meet.  We even had time to sneak in a surprise birthday celebration for Peyton's 13th birthday!  I have to say, Coach Evan and I had a blast sneaking around the grocery store and keeping an eye out so the kids wouldn't see the cake and supplies we were buying.  Mission Accomplished!

The meet kicked off with the 13-14 800 Free Relay, both of which our girls and boys teams finished first! Following right behind were our 12&Unders 400 Free, where Bryanna & Claire took 1st & 3rd for the 11-12 girls and Will took 3rd for the 11-12 boys!  After a long day of traveling we are so proud of how our kids stepped up to race and show their FCST pride!  We can't wait to see what the next few days has in store!!  ~Coach Marcy

Today was the first time I have ever gone on a travel trip with FCST. I had the best birthday ever, thanks to my awesome teammates. I got a cake shoved in my face and in my hair and it was very fun. I think our team did an awesome job on cheering people on. I really learned a lot today, but the main one is that you always need to be respectful and on your best behavior because someone is ALWAYS watching. This trip has been so much fun and we have made so many funny memories. This trip is one of the best experiences I have ever had. ~Peyton Quattlebaum

I don't really know how to start this but today was very memorable. Getting here was sort of a challenge in a way but after that we had alot of fun starting with Peyton getting her face jammed into her birthday cake. The pool was dirty at the meet but I swam the 400 free for the first time in my longcourse season and got my 5th A-time. So far the meet has been fun and very memorable. ~Will Schuler

FRIDAY, JUNE 15th:

Today was the funniest day EVER ! Me, and my two roommates ( Alexis and Roma) had a movie marathon in our room, we also had a shaving party and a Ridiculousness marathon. We also went to a baseball game and coach Evan hit a woman with a baseball . LOL
J  And also I ran into a wall when we rode Go karts . This trip has been so much fun so far and I know from here it will get better.  ~Gaby Rodriguez

Today was a whole lot different than yesterday, but in a good way. Instead of spending most of the day traveling, we started at the meet then did some great team events. After the meet we came back to the hotel for some time off. I think my roommates watched some tv, but I crashed out pretty fast. When we left we went to a pretty cool place with go carts and putt putt, and the go carts were definitely pretty awesome. To wrap it up we went to the baseball game, which was great. Now the only thing left today is Coach Evan’s story time. Yay!  ~Chris Yeager

SATURDAY, JUNE 16th:

I was so happy when the plane landed. WE LIVED!!! So my favorite funny moment was on the first day….Peyton put a packet of mustard from lunch on the back of the van’s wheel, so when Coach Marcy backed out, there was mustard all over the wheel and our parking space! That rocked. My favorite activity was totally the go-karts. Just today was the backstroke clinic with Haley McGregory. I did learn a lot during that, though I wish the clinic was before my 200 back that morning……. This trip was definitely the best time I’ve had in like a long time and I’m so glad I had this opportunity to have fun with my teammates.  ~Amanda Finnigan

Today was a lot better than yesterday! My favorite moment was the go-carts. I had a lot of fun with the clinic. I got to meet Hailey McGregory, a world record holder in the backstroke. Then we went to the hotel and rested and I had a lot of fun with that. We also got reunited with our best friend Kile Carriger and we had a blast jumping off the diving boards together!  My fun moment that happened on the way back was when me, Peyton, Anastatia, and Coach Marcy were taking pictures. I have had a lot of experiences here. It was a lot of fun. Hip hip cheerio! ~ Claire Donovan

SUNDAY, JUNE 17th:

This meet has been amazing. I have gotten to know teammates and coaches more. We have done plenty of activities that have helped us laugh and have a good time. In the actual meet each swimmer took the time to cheer for their teammates and encouraging me and others to finish the race. I personally did not have the best meet but I’m assuming I would’ve done worse if people weren’t cheering for me. When we were doing activities out of the water everybody was having good time.  We did various fun activities such as go karts, movies, diving, clinics, and my favorite: down time. I wish to have another opportunity to travel with the team to compete and have a good time. This meet has made a memorable experience that I will never forget.   –Carlos Monteagudo

Best travel meet ever!!!! Everybody got along great. We got to know each other so well, we started giving nicknames to each other. It’s the last day in Midland and I don’t think anybody will forget this trip. I think more people want to stay than go home. The weather is great here but hard to get use to. There were so many activities and the meals were great!!!!! And finally I faced my fear of heights and dived off the 5m diving board at the COM pool for a dive-in movie night.  Because on Thursday we went to HEB and bought so much stuff and I had a lot left over. Before the fight back home we were able to go to the local mall. A girl’s heaven!!! Our leaving time from the mall was 3:00 but Gaby, Roma, and I didn’t meet up with the team until 3:08. We had to run down the hall.  At the airport, we went to a little gift shop and saw scorpion lollipops. Gross right? Apparently not to Will Schuler, because he ate one. I think the hardest part of this trip was packing. I was afraid I was going to be over 50 pounds, but I wasn’t thankfully!  Home sweet home - Alexis Aikens
