Simone and Maddie Shine at Pan Pacs in Australia!
Simone Manuel and Maddie Locus represented Team USA at the Pan Pacific Championships in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia this past week. The Pan Pacific meet is held every 4 years during the midpoint between the Olympic Games. The meet is chartered by the US, Canada, Japan, and Australia, with some additional countries usually participating. Each country’s top two swimmers from prelims earn a spot in finals.
Maddie swam her way to the top 18 in the 100 free and top 10 in the 50 free. Congratulations Maddie on a job well done! FCST wishes you luck on your last swim season at the University of Georgia.
Simone set another new 17-18 National Age Group Record when she led off the 400 freestyle relay at Pan Pacs in Gold Coast, Australia. Her time of 53.25 broke Missy Franklin's record of 53.36 set in 2013! This time makes Simone the second fastest American in history in the 100 meter freestyle. She also placed in the top individual finals for the 100 and 50 freestyle and placed in the top 10 in the 200 free. Simone was also named as a member of the 2015 World Team in both the 50 and 100 freestyle. Congratulations, Simone!!
