Dec. Volunteers of the Month: Michelle and Jim!
Thank you to Michelle and Jim for being the best Administrative Officials (AO) at swim meets!
Michelle Cantone:
How long have you been with FCST? We're going on our 5th year with the team.
What's your favorite part of swimming? Honestly, it's the maturity and responsibility that the swimmers develop as they grow with the program. There are so many things that they learn now, like time management, getting up on time to make practice, and prepping in advance that will stick with them past their time in the pool.
Favorite part of swim meets? Watching our coaches lose their minds when a swimmer comes from behind and wins their heat or s/he does really well. Also seeing the grins on swimmers faces when they are congratulated for a good swim by all the coaches on the way back to the stands.
Favorite stroke? Whatever my daughter is feeling comfortable about.
Quick message for the team? Parents - WHY do you want to be stuck getting wet timing when you can
help in the office! I promise you'll NEVER miss your kid's swim. Talk to your coach if you're interested in helping us! Swimmers - regardless of your age - littles LOOK.UP.TO.YOU. Want to make someone's day? Randomly give them a high five and tell them (they did a great job/go kill it on your swim.)
Jim Achuff:
How long have you been with FCST?
We moved to the Houston area in 2015 and Todd joined FCST that August. I was already an Admin Official, so I was able to volunteer immediately in that capacity. Before moving to FCST, Todd and his older brother and sister were all members of the Upper Main Line YMCA swim team in Berwyn, PA. Barbara-Jo and I have been swim parents for about 22 years.
What's your favorite part of swimming?
Being part of a team that is like a family. Fast swims are great, but the memories are better.
Favorite part of swim meets?
The end, is that okay to say?
Favorite stroke?
Butterfly and maybe backstroke.
When I swam in high school I was a decent IM'er and all of the kids have had been strong in fly and back. None of us has ever had the knack for breaststroke.
