Swimming in College

“Searching for a school and a swim team is a process that will take time and effort but is well worth the investment.  It’s about getting good information and helping guide student-athletes as they set their goals and priorities for college and their future.  A well-executed college search leads to a happy kid and helps teach life skills and decision-making.”

About Coach Glenn

Glenn grew up in Hightstown, NJ and swam at The Peddie School.  After college and before graduate school at Virginia Tech, he worked for coach Ray Looze at Peddie.  After studying Counseling and Higher Education Administration in Blacksburg, he returned to Peddie, serving as the interim head coach in 1998-99 while also working in college counseling.

In 2000, he moved to the Upper Main Line YMCA where he won three national coach of the year awards, placed 5 athletes on US National teams and was a US National team coach.  In 2003-04, he moved south to the University of Alabama, coaching athletes who competed at the NCAA Championships, US Olympic Trials and the 2004 Olympics.  He returned to UMLY with the realization that he preferred coaching and mentoring high school student-athletes rather than college swimmers.

In 2014, Glenn took the head coaching position at Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania where he also serves as the Associate Director of College Counseling.  He has led a resurgence in the program at Mercersburg, helping to oversee the building of the Lloyd Aquatic Center with the program once again among the premier high school programs in the United States.  This year, his boys team won the prestigious Easterns Championship while his girls placed second to Germantown Academy.  Since his arrival at Mercersburg, student-athletes have gone on to swim at all three Division I service academies, Ivy League, Patriot League, and NESCAC schools as well as other programs.

Glenn’s knowledge base as not just an experienced swim coach (club, high school & college) but also as a college and guidance counselor gives him a unique perspective on college admissions and athletic recruiting.  His blend of education and experience allows him to share thoughts and strategies on how to maximize opportunities for college admissions as well as swimming in college and university settings.
