FCST Takes 71 Athletes to Oct. Open Water Competition
On October 13th, 2024, First Colony Swim Team traveled out to League City, TX to an exhilarating open water competition at Lake Longhorn, featuring 71 athletes who took on the challenge of swimming distances ranging from 500M to 4000M. This event marked a new style of meet for many participants, introducing them to the unique dynamics of open water racing.
Event Highlights
The competition kicked off with the 500M race, where FCST’s younger swimmers quickly adapted to the lake’s conditions. Athletes showcased their skills and resiliency, setting the tone for the day. The 1000M and 2000M events followed soon after, with swimmers demonstrating remarkable endurance and strategy as they navigated the open water.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the 4000M race, which tested the limits of the athletes' s stamina and mental fortitude. As they swam lap after lap(4 in total) many experienced the thrill and challenge of open water, pushing themselves to achieve personal bests. Athletes had to compete upwards to an hour continuously without any breaks or stoppage.
Notable Performances
Several athletes stood out during the competition, with impressive finishes across all events. The camaraderie among swimmers was palpable, as competitors cheered each other on, fostering a supportive atmosphere. Many athletes expressed their enthusiasm for this new format, highlighting how it offered a refreshing break from traditional pool events. A majority of the athletes are looking forward to the next open Water Competition in April 2025!
