2024 Winter Junior Nationals Recap!!!!
Congratulations to all the athletes that competed in the 2024 Winter Junior National Championships in Austin, Texas this past weekend!
The kids started off hot with the 200 Medley Relays and the 800 Free Relays on Wednesday night. On the girls side, in the 200 Medley Relay Kk LeBlanc, Lillie Sczech, Haley Finley and Addie Williford broke the 15-18 team record with a time of 1:42.56. While on the guy’s side, in the 800 Free Relay Gideon Swan, Michael Yuen, Jack Boysen and Arthur Newton came in 11th with a time of 6:38.25,
Thursday morning the group bounced back strong, starting with Gideon dropping over 6 seconds in the 500 Free to go 4:21.51 breaking another team record by 3 seconds. Meanwhile, Kk LeBlanc dropped a huge, best time in the 500 Free and turned around for the sprint the 50 Free in 22.57. She ended up tied for 8th Place with resulting in a swim off where she blazed out a 22.37 to win the A final swim later in the evening. Thursday evening highlights came from Jack Boysen going 19.94 in the 50 coming in 6th place breaking the 15-18 and Open Record.
Friday was more of the same with the Addie Williford, Haley Finley, Winnie Liu and Kk LeBlanc breaking the 15-18 Girls 200 Free Relay record with a time of 1:33.28. Jack Maddan breaking the 13-14 Boys 100 Breast record with a 58.02 and following up the next day taking down the 13-14 Boys 200 Breast Record with a 2:03.18.
Saturday evening showed the strength of the program with the 400 Free Relays finishing up the meet. On the Girls side, Addie Williford, Haley Finley, Winnie Liu and Kk LeBlance broke another 15-18 Girls Relay Record with a time of 3:23.42. On the Boys side, Michael Yuen, Arthur Newton, Lloyd Gomez and Jack Boysen finished out getting 15th with a time of 3:01.95.
We brought 11 swimmers to the meet this year which is a huge accomplishment and every single one of them stayed for finals on the last day to either swim or cheer on their teammates. The coaching staff is very proud of the team and excited about the years to come. We ended up 19th combined, 20th in the Women’s and 20th in the Men’s. Very excited for the rest of the season!
