In a thrilling display of talent and teamwork, the First Colony Swim Team (FCST) emerged as the overall champions at the 2025 Katy Tollway Invitational, held this past weekend. The meet, which featured a unique two-part format with short course prelims at the FBISD Training Pool and long course finals at the University of Houston Natatorium, showcased some of Gulf’s best swimming talent.
The competition saw FCST taking the top spot in both the team standings and in individual accolades, with swimmers delivering exceptional performances across all events.
Unique Structure Test of Mental & Physical Endurance
This meet featured a distinctive structure that tested both the mental and physical endurance of all competitors. Swimmers began with short course prelims at the FBISD Training Pool on Saturday & Sunday morning, followed by the long course finals at the University of Houston Natatorium on Saturday and Sunday evening. The shift between the two types of pools proved challenging for many, but it was an opportunity for FCST to show its strength, especially after coming off their rigorous “Monster Training” regimen.
Head Age Group Coach Trenton Thome commended his team for their resilience. “We’ve been pushing the swimmers hard in training, but they’ve responded with focus and determination,” Thome said. “The combination of short course and long course formats really demanded versatility, and our athletes showed what they’re capable of when they give their best effort.”
Team Spirit and Leadership Shine Through
While individual performances were stellar, it was the overall team chemistry that made the biggest impression. FCST’s athletes exhibited remarkable teamwork, with senior swimmers cheering & supporting the younger competitors and encouraging them through every race. The team atmosphere was noticeable, with cheers echoing throughout both the FBISD Training Pool and University of Houston Natatorium as swimmers celebrated each other’s successes.
The results of the meet were a reflection of the team's collective effort: FCST claimed the top spot in both the boys’ and girls’ team categories, securing the overall meet title in dominant fashion.
Looking Ahead
With the 2025 Katy Tollway Invitational behind them, First Colony Swim Team now shifts its focus to the remainder of the winter season and the upcoming Spring Champs in February & March. With a team this deep and talented, the future looks bright for FCST as they continue to build on their strong foundation.
