From the Pool to the Lake: FCST Makes Waves in Open Water Competition!

Trenton Thome

This past Sunday, First Colony Swim Team took on the challenge of open water racing at Lake Longhorn with an impressive 82 swimmers representing the team. The meet featured three individual distances: 500m, 1.25K, and 2.5K, testing each athlete’s endurance, pacing, and mental toughness in a completely different racing environment than the pool.

In addition to the traditional races, several FCST swimmers were selected to participate in two brand-new events: Team Pursuits and Relays. These events highlighted teamwork, strategy, and the ability to perform under pressure, all while navigating the unpredictable conditions of open water swimming.

The entire team showed remarkable grit, adaptability, and enthusiasm throughout the day. From our youngest swimmers experiencing open water for the first time to our seasoned athletes pushing for the front of the pack, every FCST member contributed to an outstanding team performance.

By the end of the meet, FCST claimed 1st Place Overall, narrowly defeating the Sharks Swim Team by just 56 points in an exciting finish. The victory was a true testament to the dedication and depth of our athletes, coaches, and families who continue to support one another both in and out of the pool.

Congratulations to all FCST swimmers for a successful and memorable day at Lake Longhorn, another great step forward in our journey together as One Team, One Dream!
