Congratulations to Simone Manuel, who placed 3rd at the World Championship Trials in the 100 freestyle. Her time of 53.83 is the 8th fastest time in the world this year, and her finish qualified her for the US 400 free relay at the World Championships! Thankfully, some food items can stay in the swim bag, providing relief in situations where optimal food sources may be scant or not ideal. The following snacks require no refrigeration, are temperature tolerant and provide a great fuel source. Poster Contest The Safety Education Committee is pleased to announce a Safety Poster Contest.  The objective is to build awareness for safety in the competitive swimming environment.  We are asking athletes to come up with their original poster designs and create a poster about safety in the pool (competition or training); open water (competition or training) or dryland training.  Details about the contest can be downloaded here.   2012-13 Scholastic All-American Applications   Each year, USA Swimming recognizes its athlete members who excel both in the classroom and in the pool. The Scholastic All-America Team is made up of high school student-athletes who have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and who have achieved the required time standard in a single event.  To be eligible for this recognition, swimmers must have completed 10th, 11th or 12th grade and must be a USA Swimming member athlete.   FCST began the first day of the swim meet on fire with 80% best times.   Leading the way, was Chris Yeager who finished 2nd in the 13-14 Boys 1500. Additionally, Carlos Monteagudo finished 7th in the same event, and Luke Leblanc was 7th in the 13-14 Boys 800 Free.  On the girls side, Anastasia Kontrimas dropped over a minute in her 1500 to finish 5th with a new TAGS Qualifying Standard.  Bryanna Vasquez finished 6th in the girls 13-14 800 Free.
